FAQs: You Ask; We Answer

How does the KU High School online schooling work?

KU High School is a private online high school that gives you the flexibility to complete your coursework virtually anytime, from anywhere in the world. Assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects are highly interactive, user-friendly, and are completed online. Whether you’re a student, a professional seeking to complete your high school diploma, or a busy parent, the KU High School College Access Diploma program is designed to work with your schedule.

What happens once I am accepted?
After you submit your application, an Admissions Representative will call to discuss enrollment and course selection with you. Once you determine your start date, you will have a phone appointment to go over course navigation, student handbook information, and what to expect as a KUHS student. You will then attend an online orientation to get familiar with the classroom environment, and you are ready to start your coursework right away.

How long will it take me to earn my high school diploma?
With sufficient transfer credits, you may complete this program in as little as five months. Our Credit Evaluation Tool can give you an idea of how many credits you’ll need. We can also send you a credit transfer checklist if you prefer. Once you begin the enrollment process, our Registrar will provide you with a thorough transcript analysis of any high school credit earned to date to confirm exactly how many and what type of credits you need to graduate.

What if I need only one or two courses to earn my diploma?
For accreditation purposes and to ensure that our students have achieved academic success through our program, you are required to complete five full-credit courses through KU High School in order to earn a diploma.

What about interaction with other students and teachers?
We want students to be able to work independently to complete their courses, while having access to the guidance and support they need. Most of your work will be done independently. However, you will have access to state-certified Instructors for questions about coursework. You can even go onto an online tool called a whiteboard with your Instructor, so you can both look at and write on the same screen at the same time—great for help on math problems. You will also receive feedback from teaching assistants, have the support of Academic Coaches, and interact with other students through classroom tools like discussion boards.

Can I apply to college with a KU High School diploma?
Yes. With your KU High School diploma, you receive a scholarship to Kaplan University ,* where you can earn your degree online. You can also apply to other colleges with your diploma, just be sure to check with a college about their acceptance policies ahead of time.

Can I transfer into KU High School mid-year?
Yes. You can enroll in KU High School and start your classes at anytime of the year. Our Registrar will review your transcripts and let you know what courses you need to complete. You will not be required to repeat the areas of study you have already successfully completed; however, in order to receive a diploma from KU High School, you must successfully complete the minimum requirements of five one-credit courses through the KU High School program, regardless of the number of credits earned at other schools.

What if I have questions or problems while taking a course?
One major advantage of online learning is that you can access course resources and seek assistance virtually anytime. You can email our Online Help Center with questions or problems that may arise in your course. The appropriate KU High School Instructor will respond by email within 24 hours during the school week or on the next school day. You can also call the Help Center and a certified Instructor can help answer your questions.
